Summary

If you’re on the search for an immersive Japanese resource, you should check out HayaiLearn.

HayaiLearn is a Japanese language web app that aims to get you fluent through video immersion. It includes a video SRS feature, where you can review mined sentences with videos—instead of just text—and keep track of the vocabulary and grammar that you already know. HayaiLearn has better subtitle quality over the YouTube automatic captions. The detailed AI explanations on every single subtitle in a video will help you understand the meaning of a sentence. You’ll get a better understanding of Japanese grammar, while also building up on your vocabulary.
HayaiLearn incorporates better and accurate word tokenization to make identifying Japanese characters easier. For instance, because Japanese doesn’t include spaces between words, it can be tricky to know which characters belong together to form certain words. Additionally, when you search for example sentences for a word in HayaiLearn’s dictionary, all the examples are taken from YouTube videos, and the video will be played right when the sentence is spoken, making it very efficient.

Because this platform is entirely web based, it can be accessed from any device, unlike similar platforms like Migaku or Language Reactor that can only be used with extensions. And unlike Anki, which limits you to audios, sentences and images when learning, HayaiLearn goes a step further by integrating videos when you review a saved sentence.

There’s no Anki integration to cater to heavy users of Anki and no Netflix support either, but if you use YouTube as a regular language learning resource and want to try out a fun immersive resource with it, then HayaiLearn is a great one to consider.
