Summary

If you’re an intermediate learner struggling to find level appropriate and easy-to-understand content, Immersi might be what you’re looking for.

Immersi is a Mandarin language learning app designed for intermediate and advance learners that aims to make learning through comprehensible input easier. It uses level appropriate video clips from YouTube along with AI-generated stories to teach language through immersion.

You’ll first take a short assessment in order for the platform to gauge your Mandarin knowledge. From there, every video in your feed will perfectly match your level. All the videos that show up in your feed make use of 80-95% of words that you already know, so you won’t spend too much time hunting for videos that you can understand. As you improve, the app adapts to match your knowledge progression. The content on Immersi is engaging, comprising videos from vetted YouTubers and AI-generated stories that have been reviewed by native speakers, along with in-depth context dependent explanations for each word. The app’s practice feature lets you view all the videos containing specific vocabulary and provides you with real-world examples. Additionally, Immersi has a built-in integration with Pleco to further enhance your learning experience.

Unlike similar platforms like Umi, which focuses on super short clips, or DuChinese with short stories, Immersi offers a more immersive approach with both short and full-length videos to provide a better understanding of how words are used in context. It also has a wider range of content, from travel vlogs to cooking videos, and much more.

Immersi is limited to Mandarin Chinese and isn’t the best for beginners as it doesn’t support traditional characters, but for intermediate to advanced learners looking for a fun immersive resource, this is definitely worth a try. Immersi is free for about an hour a day, so try it out and see if it works for you.
