I can’t begin to explain how good this app is and how helpful it is in Language study. I’ve noticed that the last update was 4 years ago, and the app doesn’t support new google play store version. Please please keep supporting the app. It’s already a shame my friends from class can’t install from google play. There are so few reliable and accurate digital resources for English to Japanese. Please don’t let this dictionary die. The resources tab will be increasingly valuable as I progress through the end of my university’s curriculum.

I can’t read Kanji but I can type in English letters with this dictionary! And there is hiragana above all the Kanji so I can read that! I love it and have used it daily for years. Buy it!

This dictionary app has it all. I am nearly done with the Genki Textbook vol 1 curriculum, and I love supplementary resources while I learn, This app pairs well with the New Nelson Dictionary. I would ask the app developers to make widgets for iOS for things like words of the day to keep learning fresh, and maybe a quick search like the dictionary.com app does. Since these are the same publishers as Genki Textbook, Could custom lists of words be imported as a new feature? So people can export their lists as a txt or excel file, something universal the app could read? This way there can be lists for each lesson of Genki so setting up convenient methods of study aids is easy. Japan Times could also make their own official lists for Genki too, but I’m sure the public will eventually share this online anyway. This way, I can review vocab lists more easily from my phone and each word is linked to the dictionary for further Kanji review and conjugation checks etc.

I am blown away by the sheer level and quality of resources this app is providing for free. From not only a dictionary, but to copy and paste and this look up and dissect any phrase we find, from the incredible references tab, to explore kana, kanji, sort by JLPT classications or other categories, to see stroke orders, the examples, just, thank you so much to the developers for this timeless resource. ありがとうございます。

I use this app to add lists and I love how neat it is .. it lets you create folder in addition of the lists .. Video Games (folder) -> Yakuza 8 (list) + Danganronpa (list) .. etc Study each list and test them using flashcards One of the most lovable feature in the app is the ability to create endless notes for each word .. this will help me write the sentences in which the word appeared from the game I gave it 4 because I felt the app needs to be more polished + no new updates since 2019

Sometimes, if left in the background, it crashes upon reopening. Makes it difficult to do research with multiple apps, But only a little. So, still 4⭐ for the effort. This app is quite the handy tool for learning the language. One might even say a treasure

I have been speaking Japanese ( fluently ) for over 40 years ( sincere 1982, when I was 22 and lived and worked there for two years ). I have been using this app for several years to help keep up with the language and I absolutely love it. For me it is the best Japanese reference I have ever found, bar none. The completeness of the database/vocabulary and the in-depth study of each word is amazing. I use it regularly.

This app gives you a ton of Japanese reference and learning tools for free. I haven’t searched much so I can’t say that for sure, but it’s hard to want more when this app already gives you so much.

I really like this app as a Pocket-pedia! I wish so badly there was more on it!!! I think it’s really cool how you can search one or few words and it will give you insight on different ways you can use the words! I hope more people will use this app and that it will be updated. The app told me that it hasn’t been updated in 4 years though!! I love this app so please keep working on it!!!!

As someone relatively new to learning Japanese with a short attention span and a ton of self doubt, I found myself wanting to dip my toes into immersion by using a dictionary to search vocabulary. This app was my hero. It’s intuitive and easy to read, with a built in list system that lets you keep track of how many words you’ve searched for any given media or topic. Great for building study decks or reviewing vocab before a re-read attempt. Drawing kanji is very forgiving for beginners who aren’t experienced with stroke order, and even if that fails, the radical search is very easy to read and much easier to parse than a website like Jisho. Even as someone still very inexperienced, it’s made reading material relatively easy to get into. The motivation and patience to do so must come from within, im afraid, but if you have the fuel this app will be your engine. I’ve been having a wonderful time playing games in japanese with the assistance of this app, and I don’t doubt that i’ll be deferring to it time and time again for many months as I continue my little journey.
