Summary

Ti amo Italian is is an Italian app designed to take learners from A1–C2 with a structured path through all the CEFR levels. The platform supports 15 interface languages, including German, Spanish, Albanian, Bengali and more, with explanations available in all 15. The content is comprehensive covering grammar, vocabulary, and graded reading. For practice, you can work on writing, listening, dialogues, games along with 35 practice simulations for the CILS, CELI and PLIDA exams. Every CEFR level has its own checkpoint and an end-of-level test, and for those whose goal is citizenship, there’s a complete simulation of the B1 exam required for Italian citizenship. Here, you’ll be tested on all four language skills with real timings and score reports. In addition to first-time learners, this resource caters to heritage learners. So rather than assuming everyone starts from zero, it connects the Italian or dialect words learners may have picked up from family with standard Italian.

One of the more interesting parts is its use of real Italian literature and adapting it to match different CEFR levels, so you can start reading literature without having to wait till you’re advanced. You can look up vocabulary as you read, and the app uses spaced repetition to help you remember them over time. If you’re a teacher, Ti amo Italian can complement classroom lessons. You can assign extra practice material to students directly through the app. The built in teacher mode makes it easy to use alongside real lessons with free accounts for teachers and school vouchers for students.

Compared to apps like Duolingo or Babbel, Ti amo Italian puts lots of emphasis on clear A1 to C2 progression. LingQ is probably the closest comparison, especially for reading and input but where LingQ is more of a library, Ti amo Italian integrates a structured, graded path.

Ti amo Italian is currently available only on iOS and speaking practice is limited to read-aloud practice with on-device pronunciation checking. If what you’re looking for is free conversation practice or an AI tutor, you may need to find another resource to practice speaking. That said, if you want a structured Italian course that goes beyond the usual beginner material Amo Italian is a good one to try.

While it currently lacks an AI conversation tutor, Thuis Italiaans is a good app and useful for staying on track toward your language goals. The A1–C2 path and exam prep make it a useful tool for learning

The review says the app “doesn’t include speaking practice or speech repetition.” There is speaking practice: read-aloud exercises with on-device speech recognition (Apple’s Speech framework, it-IT) that compare what the learner actually said against the target sentence. It works offline and no audio ever leaves the phone. The B1 citizenship simulation also has an oral section, transcribed on-device deliberately left unscored, because an automated score on pronunciation flatters the candidate, and that’s the worst thing you can do to someone two weeks away from the real exam. What is fair to say is that there’s no free conversation practice and no AI conversation partner. Suggested replacement sentence: “Speaking is limited to read-aloud practice with on-device pronunciation checking there’s no free conversation or AI tutor, so you’ll want another source for speaking.”
